The beginning level math lessons are best started at age 5, or even sooner, before the child develops a reliance on counting strategies. An early start also helps the child understand quantities based around 5s and 10s. Level A includes place value to the hundreds, addition facts to 10, and some basic geometry.

A sampler of the RightStart Level A manual is available for download.

Starter Kit Level A

Recommended, but not required, are the Fraction Puzzle Board and Math Balance.

Materials needed to teach the RightStart program are packaged in kits. Starter Kits have all the required manuals and manipulatives needed at each starting point. The difference between Starter Kit Classic and Starter Kit Standard is the AL Abacus included in the kit. The Starter Kit Classic includes the AL Abacus Classic and the Starter Kit Standard includes the AL Abacus Standard. It becomes a personal preference which AL Abacus will work best for your family.

The Add-On Kits are for those who have been teaching the RightStart program and are ready for the next level. Each Add-On Kit provides the Lessons and Worksheets and needed manipulatives. Again, recommended items are available.

Some families prefer to purchase the Manipulative Kit, then add the needed manuals. This provides all the manipulatives required for all levels. It also works well if two levels are being taught.
